His expertise extends to managing knee conditions through procedures like ACL repair, meniscus surgery, and knee arthroscopy.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Szerlip is a dedicated researcher and educator in the field of orthopedics. He has authored numerous research publications and book chapters and is a sought-after presenter on innovative surgical techniques. His work highlights advancements in both shoulder replacement design and modern knee procedures.
Dr. Szerlip began his academic journey at The College of Wooster, earning his bachelor’s degree before completing post-baccalaureate studies in clinical research at the National Institutes of Health. He received his medical degree from Ohio University and honed his skills during his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland. This solid educational foundation has been instrumental in shaping his commitment to excellence in patient care.
Seeking further specialization, Dr. Szerlip completed a Shoulder and Elbow fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, training under internationally renowned surgeons. He built extensive clinical experience during his five years in Austin with Ortho Associates of Central Texas and the Austin Shoulder Institute. This experience has empowered him to offer state-of-the-art care for both shoulder and knee conditions.
Dr. Szerlip is passionate about empowering patients with clear, evidence-based treatment plans tailored to their individual needs. His patient-centered approach ensures comprehensive care for a variety of orthopedic challenges, from sports-related injuries to chronic joint issues.
Outside the clinic, he enjoys spending quality time with his wife Carlie and their three children, Maddie, Wyatt, and Chloe, and loves engaging in outdoor activities such as mountain biking, tennis, and relaxing on Lake Austin.
